Ashland Community Health Center (ACHC) Welcomes Dr. Leonard Bauer

Leonard Bauer, M.D., joined the staff of the ACHC ( Rosebud County ) in August. Dr. Bauer is a family practice physician who, previously, was the Chief Medical Officer and ER Director at the IHS facility in Lame Deer. After graduating from Stanford University School of Medicine in 1989, Dr. Bauer completed his internship at the University of Washington , Seattle , in 1990, and the University of Wyoming Family Practice Residency Program in 1995. "Access to healthcare is a major issue for the people in Ashland," says Dr. Bauer, "In the short time I have been affiliated with ACHC, it has become obvious to me that there are a number of elderly and chronically ill people in the community who simply don't have a means of transportation and, therefore, go without care they desperately need. The solution for isolated rural communities to bridge the health disparity gap, is to have medical care available in those communities."

Kaaren Rizor, the Executive Director of ACHC, says the number of patient visits to the clinic has tripled since Dr. Bauer came to work there. "We expect to serve even more people as they become aware of the quality of the healthcare program and the expanded services we are developing," she said.
