The passage of health care reform created a tremendous opportunity to increase access to comprehensive health care for thousands of Montanans. In 2013, 16 of MPCA’s health centers received HRSA outreach and enrollment funding, and hired approximately 60 Certified Application Counselors. MPCA supports these CACs in their outreach and enrollment work by providing extensive training and technical assistance, sharing materials, problem-solving for complicated enrollments, and identifying outreach best practices.
MPCA and our health centers have become leaders in Montana for our work to educate Montanans about their new health insurance options, assist them in enrolling in a plan through the Marketplace, and provide health insurance literacy education and support. MPCA works with health centers to hold educational forums and enrollment events across the state, and furthers the reach of health centers by assisting with outreach-related media and communications. During the 2013 open enrollment cycle, MPCA and health centers reached more than 100,000 Montanans.
MPCA partners with community organizations and agencies across the state to reach these uninsured and underinsured Montanans.
