This session is geared toward staff at small rural and remote health centers who manage cybersecurity responsibilities alongside their primary job functions. Recognizing the unique challenges of limited time, budget, and technical resources, this training focuses on practical, high-priority security measures that protect patient data while meeting compliance requirements. Participants will leave with actionable strategies to begin or enhance their cybersecurity plan, make the business case for security investments, and connect with an ongoing support network of peers facing similar challenges.

 

Speaker Biography:

Nathan Botts, PhD, MSIS, is the EPE/Cybersecurity Expert for HITEQ. Dr. Botts is a Senior Study Director at Westat with over 11 years of clinical systems research and development experience. Dr. Botts currently serves as the Electronic Patient Engagement (EPE), Privacy and Security domain lead, and learning management system task lead for the HITEQ Center, where he has developed numerous related resources and provided in-person and webinar-based presentations for PCA and HCCN conferences on the effective use of EPE and cybersecurity. Related projects include work as the project director for a Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)-funded telehealth research demonstration project, work integrating data and developing dashboards and visualizations for the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC).
