This training focuses on the biopsychosocial (physical, emotional, and mental)changes patients experience with withdrawal and early recovery/abstinence eff orts for substance use disorders. Effective evidence-based approaches for communication and patient engagement are discussed, as well as the impact of medical trauma and promoting team communication. Trauma within the healthcare, criminal justice, and social systems will be explored as a barrier to care and what we can do to improve our care interventions. Learn the history of opioids and how we ended up in an epidemic taking the lives of those we care about. Understand best practices for treating opioid use disorder, why it works, and how it is saving lives.
